Quebec is the one province where a sprint's language decision comes before its lane decision. Marketing to Quebec customers means working in French, and the rules on advertising and websites are specific. Beyond that, Montréal, Québec City and the regions are distinct markets, and a long, snowy winter sets the calendar for many businesses.
Language first
Plan French content from week one; it is a legal matter as well as good service.
As of October 2026, the Charter of the French Language, as Bill 96 amended it, expects French to dominate clearly on outdoor signs and in ads. From 2025-06-01, an English or other non-French name or trademark that can be seen from the street needs French wording alongside it. Online, a Quebec-facing website or social account has to be offered in French, with other languages allowed in addition. The Office québécois de la langue française (OQLF) is the reference. We're not lawyers; take advice on your own situation.
For a sprint, this means every new page, quote template, reminder message and review request needs a French version, which adds to scope and should be planned in the diagnostic.
The Quebec market and its buyers
By 2021 Census population, Montréal leads, followed by Québec City (the capital), Laval, Gatineau, Longueuil, Sherbrooke, Lévis and Saguenay.
- Montréal, Laval and Longueuil. The most competitive setting, with buyers comparing several businesses. Reply speed and quote clarity, in French, decide many sales.
- Québec City and Lévis. A capital-region market where reputation and visible reviews carry weight.
- Gatineau. Part of the Ottawa–Gatineau area, so many businesses here serve customers on both sides of the provincial border and need to plan for both sets of rules.
- Sherbrooke, Saguenay and the regions. Smaller, loyal markets where repeat and referral sprints often move quickly.
Climate, seasons and sprint timing
Quebec winters are cold and snowy, and the heating season is long, more so away from the St. Lawrence lowlands.
- Winter-peak services should start sprints by early summer.
- Spring and summer businesses, including renovation, landscaping and terraces, should run their sprint in winter.
- Retail and gift businesses should count back from the holiday period, with sprint weeks 7 to 12 in October and November; French-language product pages and reminders need to be ready before then.
Registries and regulators to know
We link and summarise only.
- Registraire des entreprises du Québec handles business registration.
- Office de la protection du consommateur (OPC) enforces consumer protection law, which covers how offers and prices are advertised.
- CNESST covers labour standards, pay equity and workplace health and safety, relevant if the sprint adds staff or hours.
Programs worth knowing, as of October 2026
For home-service businesses, Quebec has active programs, with recent changes.
- LogisVert, from Hydro-Québec, offers grants for ENERGY STAR heat pumps, geothermal systems and other measures. The utility's page says it keeps handling LogisVert files as usual while a new federal heat pump rebate is prepared for 2027.
- Rénoclimat has new rules from 2026-10-01. Homeowners can now skip the evaluation before work starts, and revised maximums apply; anyone still on the previous rules has until 2027-03-31 to finish.
- Chauffez vert stopped taking applications after 2026-03-31.

A quick Quebec sprint check
Say a Laval business receives 90 enquiries a month but its quote template exists only in English. If French-speaking buyers close at 15% today and a French quote with the same scope and pricing lifts that to 22%, the gain on 60 French enquiries is about four sales a month. Those figures are illustrative; the diagnostic measures your own.
How we would run a sprint in Quebec
- Write in French first, then adapt to English if needed.
- Pick one region, rather than the whole province.
- Fix replies and quotes in the language the buyer used.
- Time it to the season, counting back from your own peak.

Frequently asked questions
Do we need French content for a Quebec sprint?
If you market to Quebec customers, yes. As of October 2026, Quebec law expects French to dominate your advertising, and any website or social account aimed at Quebec buyers has to exist in French. Check the OQLF for your own obligations.
Can a sprint run in English and French at once?
Yes, but it adds scope, because every page, quote template and reminder needs a French version. The proposal sets out how French-language work is handled before the sprint begins.
Which programs can a home-service business mention in Quebec?
As of October 2026, Hydro-Québec's LogisVert program was processing requests normally and Rénoclimat had changed its rules from 2026-10-01. Link to the official pages and tell customers to confirm eligibility.
